Michael Delaney
Michael Tyrone Delaney II resides in Vista, CA, a terribly boring, half dumpy suburbia, where he is inspired by the homeless, the never ending road construction, the soccer moms with coke lined noses, and the little dispossessed children who reuse to wear bathing suits at the beach. His art is his outlet and captures the intangible things in his life and in his head. He started creating art as a child, and never lost the desire (as most grown ups do) to explore, create, and imagine. |

Interview 1. When did you decide to become an artist? I’ve had a nature to create and build things for as long as I can remember. In elementary school, I would always get in trouble for doodling on the margins of my school work. I started playing drums at the age of 12, and since then I’ve picked up a few other instruments. I don’t think I ever decided to become an artist, rather, it has just been a natural progression. Last year, I decided to share my work with the world, and started my website, www.safetyisahazard.com. 2. Where did you train? I am a self taught artist, so I’ve just picked up various techniques and crafts over the years. My ideas come from the exploration of higher dimensions. 4. What artist or artists inspired you? Right now: Herbie Hancock, Mati Klarwein, Raymond Pettibone, Mario Hugo, KRS ONE. I like to explore themes of power and balance, and how they coincide. I use various symbols to illustrate these themes. 6. What helped to shape you? A wonderful family, punk rock and the great philosophers. 7. What medium do you use and how did you decide on this? I use any medium I can get my hands on, or whatever happens to be around at the time. I recently have been screen printing, and working on some film and photography projects, so stay tuned! I hope to empower the masses, share my ideas, and have a great time doing it. I also want to collaborate with as many people as possible, so if you’re interested in working together, get at me. |
